College of Engineering, Computer Science,
and Technology Department of Technology Don Maurizio
Office: Engineering and Technology, room A-339
Introduction I served as the Associate Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology from 1989 to 1995 and as Chair of the Department of Technology from 1996 to 2001. I have been a member of the faculty at Cal State Los Angeles since 1979. My area of specialization is design, with a focus on architecture, electronics packaging and process plant design. I have taught design using both traditional methods (board drafting) and CAD. I have been an AutoCAD user since release 1.1! In addition to my technical expertise, I have an interest in articulation and articulated programs. I have developed a reputation as a leader in 2+2 and 2+2+2 programs in Southern California over the past ten years. I also have an interest in elementary technology education and technology education for students with disabilities. I have taught at the secondary and university level for the past 25 years. Although I've taught other subjects, my primary field is design. I believe that design isn't a separate discipline, but rather the "front end" of manufacturing or construction. We are working on a revision to our program that presents it from that perspective and focuses on design for a product vs. design for a project. My technical areas of interest include architecture, CAD, process plant design and desin models. My other areas of interest in the general field of education include program articulation (with an emphasis on 2+2 and 2+2+2), assisting teachers with inclusion programs for students with disabilities in technology education and student leadership organizations.
