INTRODUCTION
Dr. M. Diane Klein is currently professor of early childhood special education in the Division of Special Education at California State University, Los Angeles. Dr. Klein received her M.A. in speech-language pathology and audiology from Western Michigan University and her Ph.D. in developmental psychology from Michigan State University. She has worked with young children who have severe disabilities, as well as high-risk infants and their families. She has directed numerous federally funded projects involving caregiver-child interaction, working with infants with low incidence and multiple disabilities, training of early childhood special educators, and training inclusion support personnel. She is co-author of a widely used text in early childhood special education, Adapting early childhood curricula for children in inclusive settings (6th Edition,2004, Merrill/ Prentice Hall):a curriculum and training video for working with families of infants with multiple disabilities Project PLAI: Working with young children with significant and multiple disabilities (2002, Paul Brookes), and two additional texts: Including Children with Special Needs in Early Childhood Settings (2002,Delmar), and Working with Children from Culturally Diverse Backgrounds (2001, Delmar). Dr. Klein has also produced a variety of training videos related to inclusion support strategies for young children with disabilities in community based settings.
TEACHING INTERESTS
Dr. Klein teaches courses in the following areas: language and cognition of students
with disabilities; working with families of infants and young children with special needs;
early intervention and early childhood special education curriculum and methods; and
working with infants with severe and multiple disabilities.
