California Mathematics Council is a professional organization that
promotes mathematics education by fostering excellence and

Contains information on this important professional society for
mathematics education leaders - its work, conferences, how to
join... Be sure to click on the Position papers button to find
resources that can be used as vehicles for important dialogues

- Computer Using Educators

An excellent professional organization whose goal is to promote
and develop instructional uses of
technology in all disciplines and at all educational levels from
preschool through college. It has an active current membership of
over 11,000 educational professionals. Check it out.

**The Math Forum, is a virtual center for mathematics education on
the internet. It has lots of resources for both teachers and
students. Be sure to look at Dr. Math, a service for students to
get help with homework. A variety of rich lessons and activities
were developed by Suzanne Alejandre and other teachers. (Also, if
you don't have software to get on the internet, they include some
software
for accessing the internet.)
- Eisenhower Nat'l Clearinghouse
for Math & Science Ed (Enc). ( http://www.enc.org )
**The Eisenhower National Clearinghouse is a repository of of
mathematics and science education instructional materials and
programs for elementary, middle and secondary school. It has links
to many worthwhile web sites. The lessons/activities that have the
digital dozen notation were reviewed for excellence.
- Library of Virtual
Manipulatives ( http://matti.usu.edu )
**This site is the National Library of Virtual Manipulatives for
Interactive Mathematics. It is a library of uniquely interactive
web-based manipulatives for K-8, e.g. pattern blocks, function
machines, algebra tiles. It's organized around grade bands and
mathematics topics. What a find!(It will be offering a CD-ROM
version at a later date. THIS SITE IS GREAT!

A worthwhile resource for students. The "kids" section provides
games and quizzes for practice of math skills. It could be a good
source for home practice.

This site provides interactive experiences for practice of math
facts as well as worksheets that can be printed. Four resources
available are: Flashcards, Game Room, Homework Helper and
Worksheets.

worth considering.

Blue Web'n is a searchable database of outstanding Internet

tools). There is a review process of the materials chosen to

The Schools of California on-line Resources for Education site has
many useful teaching resources in mathematics, science and other
curricular areas.

This Scholastic Co. site includes links to information on how the
world wide web works as well as how it is used in elementary and
secondary schools. You can visit its "100+ Terrific Web Sites." Be
aware this takes time to browse; hours can pass by easily.

Century Problem Solving (

If you can ignore the advertising, this site is very useful. It
includes some interesting problems and a heuristic for solving
them, based on the author's view of the problems

- Research
Syntheses ( http://www.ed.gov/pubs/collect.html )
The Office of Educational Research and Improvement (OERI) and the
major OERI-funded institutions (Centers, Labs, ERIC) have produced
a substantial body of educational research and development
information. It has a search engine for searching ERIC Digests -
summaries of research on particular topics. This is a site which
is accessed from the U.S.
Department of Education web site.
- Eisenhower Nat'l Clearinghouse
for Math & Science Ed (Enc). ( http://www.enc.org )
**The Eisenhower National Clearinghouse is a rich resource for
professional development. You can find full text articles on the
mathematics reform, resources materials and lesson plans (click on
Ideas for Reform and Reform in Action). And it has a link to ERIC
Digests also.
- NCREL (
http://www.ncrel.org
The North Central Regional Educational Laboratory (NCREL) is one
of ten Regional Educational Laboratories. One of their projects,
Pathways to School Improvement Internet Server, offers easy to
find, concise, research-based information on school improvement.
The Pathways server provides important information on a variety of
categories including: Assessment, At-Risk Children and Youth,
Goals and Standards, Governance/Management, leadership, Learning,
Literacy, Mathematics, etc.
