Health- and Skill-Related Fitness Octathlon |
|
|
| Speed is a skill-related fitness component that is defined as the capacity for very fast, all-out repetitive movement (typically evaluated by measurement of sprinting performance). |
| Activity Description |
| Objective: Complete the test as quickly as possible while conforming to test rules. |
| Speed Test Procedures: |
| Twelve inch cones (2 X 2) placed to form a rectangle (four lanes wide and 40 meters long) at about the center of the front 100m stretch of the track. The event requires each team to place 4 participants at each end of the rectangle (any combination is permissible as long as the team's lineup includes 4 males and four females). Each runner must complete 40 meters and pass the batton to the next runner. The last runner must cross the finish line with batton in hand. The best of as many trials the team choses to perform (as allowed within the station's time limit), will be recorded as the team's final performance. |

| Speed Test Scoring: |
| Time is measured (to the nearest tenth of a second) from the "GO" command until the eight runner crosses the finish line. All penalty times will be added to the best performance; no exceptions, no kidding. |
