INTRODUCTION

My primary interests are in residential segregation and neighborhood transition in urban environments. I am also dedicated to maximizing the learning experience of CSULA students through active and hands-on learning.

TEACHING INTERESTS

My teaching interests include, cultural geography, population, migration, urban issues, GIS, statistics, methodology and Los Angeles. I am also involved in teaching and developing the NSS 101 course.  My teaching goals include using real data and technology in the classroom, improved learning through active participation, and critical thinking.

RESEARCH INTERESTS

My research focuses on investigating patterns of residential segregation and neighborhood transition. I am also interested in developing new methods to further this research. My doctoral dissertation investigated the affects of age segregation on countywide spending initiatives in metropolitan Phoenix. I am currently interested in exploring further impacts of segregation upon the larger community and the fragmentation of U.S. cities into ethnic enclaves and special interest communities.
