With 28 years of elementary teaching experience, teaching at the university level seems so natural. Since so many of my elementary students and colleagues have attended CSULA, I feel invested in the university and its goals of ensuring the academic success of its linguistically and culturally diverse student population.
My teaching interests are to deepen the understanding and ability of preservice and inservice teachers to meet the language, learning, and literacy needs of a diverse student population.
My research focuses on the teacher as learner in professional development and on the assessment of English Learners. I am currently involved in several curriculum development projects related to standards-based instruction for English Learners. Future research will investigate interactionist approaches to second language acquisition. Representative Professional Activities
