INTRODUCTION
Dr. Kouyoumdjian received her B.A. from the University of California, Santa Barbara in the field of Psychology in 2001. She then attended the teacher credential program at California Polytechnic University, Pomona and received a multiple subjects teaching credential with a BCLAD emphasis in 2002. Shortly after she returned to Santa Barbara, and entered the Gevirtz Graduate School of Education, UCSB. She received her Ph.D. in Education with an emphasis in Child and Adolescent Development in 2008.
TEACHING INTERESTS
Dr. Kouyoumdjian teaches courses that focus on adolescent development and parent child dynamics. She believes learning should involve a dynamic interaction between the instructor, the students and the material.
RESEARCH
Dr. Kouyoumdjian's research interests include Adolescent Sexuality and Achievement Motivation, Ethnic Minority Family Processes, and Culture, Gender, and Health Socialization. Her current research focuses on the development of autonomy among Armenian adolescents. Past research has focused on mother-child communication about education, family dynamics among Latino adolescents experiencing a teen pregnancy, and sexual health social support among diverse populations.
