Updated University Policy, and College and Department ARTP Documents

Below are links to the current Appointment, Retention, Tenure and Promotion (ARTP) documents for the colleges and their respective departments.

IMPORTANT NOTE:   Portions of these documents have been superseded by recent changes in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA, or contract), University Policy, and contract interpretations.  Where the ARTP documents and University Policy or the CBA conflict, the provisions in University Policy and contract are to be followed.

It is critical that reviewers and candidates are aware of the following updates regarding:

- University Policy on Evaluation of Permanent Instructional Faculty (Evaluative Terms; One- and Two-year Reappointments)

Also, please note changes to the Criteria for Early Promotion to Full Professor. As of Summer 2012, the criteria for early promotion to full professor are as follows: A candidate for early promotion to full professor must have a sustained outstanding record in categories A and B, "educational performance" and "professional achievement," and must be found to be at least satisfactory in category C, "contributions to the University".

- University Policy on Evaluation of Temporary Instructional Faculty (Evaluative Terms; Criteria for Evaluation; Criteria for Range Elevation)

In every case, the evaluation of a temporary faculty member shall be appropriate to his or her assignment and based on the faculty member's performance of the essential duties of the position.

Temporary faculty members exclusively assigned to teaching shall be evaluated solely on the basis of educational performance, which includes instructional performance and currency in their field (s).

A review that finds a temporary faculty member's performance to be satisfactory or better shall be accompanied by a favorable recommendation for reappointment and/or range elevation.

A terminal degree will be considered a requirement for consideration of elevation to ranges C or D if appropriate to the faculty member’s assignment, based on the faculty member's performance of the essential duties of the position, and if specified as a requirement for employment in the faculty member's appointment letter.

Faculty are responsible for being aware of additional University policies relevant to faculty evaluation which may be found in Chapter Six of the Faculty Handbook.
