Outbound Exchange Students
This page is designed to provide resources to outbound CSULA students in a study abroad or travel abroad program. This is not an exhaustive list of available resources, but a collection of important information for students who plan to travel abroad to be aware of. Being prepared is not limited to just academics and finances, but also staying healthy and safe. It is your responsibility to prepare for all aspects of your exchange program.

The Gilman Scholarship Program seeks to diversify the kinds of students who study abroad and the countries and regions where they go. Specifically, the Gilman Program offers scholarships for students who have been traditionally underrepresented in education abroad. The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program is open to all U.S. citizen undergraduates, in good academic standing, who receives Federal Pell Grants. Awards range from $1,500 - $5,000 with Critical Language Supplements of $3,000. See website for additional eligibility criteria as well as application materials.

Fulbright awards and scholarships are well-funded as well as highly competitive and seek to increase mutual understanding between the peoples of the U. S. and other countries.
Academic Year 2011-2012 (Application will open May 1, 2010)

- Undergraduate Scholarships: Enhances opportunities for U.S. undergraduate students to study in world regions critical to U.S. interests through awards of up to $20,000. February 1st application deadline
- Graduate Fellowships: Designed to Encourage U.S. graduate students to add an important language component to their education through awards of up to $30,000. January 11th application deadline
- National Flagship Language Program Fellowships: The Language Flagship offers a limited number of fellowships to qualified American students interested in receiving financial support to participate in one of the Flagship Programs in Arabic, Korean, Mandarin, and Persian.
