If you wish to get a better visual orientation you could try searching on maps.google.com, www.mapquest.com or maps.yahoo.com for ‘5151 State University Drive, Los Angeles 90032’, this is the administrative address for Cal State L.A.

Alhambra 91803, 91081 (north and east of campus)
Monterey Park 91754, 91755 (south and east of campus)
South Pasadena 91030 (north of campus)
Los Angeles 90032 (but only immediately west of campus)
Generally north or east of campus is preferred, limit southern searches to Monterey Park. Farther north you will find more expensive i.e. Pasadena 91106.

Tips

Beware of landlords or apartment managers that want to deal in cash for application fees or deposits. An alternative is money order and ALWAYS get a receipt.
Make sure to ask what is included in the rent. In southern California it is frequent for an apartment not to include a refrigerator. Some complexes have them for rent, for an additional fee.
Consider sharing an apartment with other exchange participants or Cal State L.A. student(s).
There are many small apartment complexes which may not be listed on the internet. If you have access to a car and patience you can find a wide variety of accommodations in the suggested areas.
