Employment, Placement, and Internship Opportunities
Paralegal positions are available in law offices, corporations, banks, insurance companies, savings and loan associations, and local, state, and federal government agencies. Although the program does not guarantee employment, it uses its contacts with the legal community to help graduates find employment. In addition to placement services, the program offers internships and seminars on job-seeking strategies and resume-writing.

CSULA Paralegal Internships Available (rev. 5/1/2008)
An internship is not required by CSULA in order to receive a paralegal certificate. Internships are offered in order to provide opportunities for actual working experience to students who are interested and have the time to take them. Internships are particularly important to students who have no experience in the legal field.

There are two ways to accomplish a paralegal internship. 1) is officially (FOR CREDIT) and the other is unofficially (NOT FOR CREDIT). If you want to take an official internship you will be required to enroll in the Practicum Class PLS 782 (Paralegal Internship) through the regular paralegal program at CSULA. The regular tuition fee applies to this class Arrangements to take PLS 782 must be done no later than the middle of the quarter preceding the quarter in which you wish to take the internship. Doing an internship this way allows you to receive official credits for doing the work, but also requires that you pay the registration fee, turn in reports to the coordinator, and receive a grade at the end of the quarter. 2) Is to take an un-official internship. This way you contact the sponsor directly and arrange to do a volunteer internship directly through them. Either way you elect to take an internship the internship experience should be included under experience on your resume.

IF YOU WANT TO TAKE THE INTERNSHIP FOR CREDIT (OFFICIALLY) Please note that it is your responsibility to follow-up and make the necessary arrangements with both the sponsor and, if necessary, the Internship Coordinator before the quarter in which you intend to do the work. It is also your responsibility to sign up for the internship class during the quarter you intend to take the class.
