Electronics technology is the driving force behind the revolutionary changes in modern automation, telecommunications, computers, and instrumentation. Needed are technical people who can function well in a dynamic, constantly changing environment. This upper division certificate is designed for several kinds of students:
- community college transfers who want to further their studies in electronics
- students who want to update their technical knowledge and skills in electronics through continuing education
- baccalaureate-seeking students who want to pursue careers in electronics while they finish their degrees
Career Opportunities
Students who complete the certificate qualify for employment in private companies and government organizations in electronic manufacturing, field servicing, or design-assisted environments. Job titles include electronic technician, electronic technologist, product testing specialist, field service representative, electronic control specialist, electronic design technician, product design specialist, and technical support specialist.
Program Requirements
This certificate emphasizes application-oriented knowledge and hands-on experience in electronics. Each course has a lab component that integrates knowledge and skills. The program requires successful completion of 30 quarter units. Up to two courses (6 units) may be transferred in from other institutions. Students completing the program with a GPA of at least 2.0 receive a Certificate of Completion. Courses may be applied toward the B.S. in Industrial Technology, Production Technology option or the B.A. in Industrial Arts. TECH 321 (Solid State Electronics) or its equivalent is prerequisite to the program.
