Director: Lourdes Portillo, 1999, USA, Documentary, 47 mins., Spanish w/English Subtitles A compassionate collage that documents Tejana singer Selena, who was on the brink of blockbuster crossover fame when her murder at age 23 catapulted her into mainstream celebrity. Introduced by Dr. Dionne Espinoza Professor of Chicano Studies, Liberal Studies, and Women’s and Gender Studies at CSULA, Dr. Espinoza’s teaching and research explore the dynamics of culture, class, gender/sexuality, and social justice in Chicano/a and Latino/a communities in the U.S.
