Before Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton, there was Shirley Chisholm, a Democrat from New York, who was the first Black woman elected to the U.S. Congress and the first African American woman to seek a major party’s presidential nomination. Her sheer will and refusal to accept the status quo inspired women worldwide to seek political office. Directed by Shola Lynch, 2004, 77 minutes.
