Speaker: Dr. Bruce Bagley is currently Professor of International Studies in the Department of International Studies (INS) at the University of Miami (UM) and formerly served as INS chair, as Director of UM’s Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS), and as Associate Dean of the Graduate School of International Studies (GSIS) at UM. Prior to his arrival at UM, Dr. Bagley was an Associate Professor of Comparative and International Politics at the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) at Johns Hopkins University, in Washington, D.C. and Professor of Political Science at the Universidad de los Andes, in Bogotá. In addition, he has served as a consultant for the United Nations, the U.S. government and several governments in Latin America, on issues of drug trafficking, money laundering and public security. His current research focuses on U.S.-Latin America relations, with an emphasis on drug trafficking and security issues. Dr. Bagley is the author and editor of more than 20 books, the latest being Colombia’s Political Economy at the Outset of the Twenty-First Century  (co-edited with Jonathan Rosen, Lexington Books, 2015) and Drug Trafficking, Organized Crime and Violence in the Americas Today (co-edited with Jonathan Rosen, University Presses of Florida, 2015).
