Jumpstart is a national early education organization that recruits and trains college students to serve preschool children in low-income neighborhoods. The proven curriculum helps children develop the language and literacy skills they need to be ready for kindergarten, setting them on a path to close the achievement gap before it is too late.
Cal State L.A. is proud to partner with Jumpstart by piloting the program with three Mexican American Opportunity Foundation preschools located in East Los Angeles as a part of our GO East L.A.: A Pathway for College & Career Success initiative.
Our 38 Corps Members receive training and guidance to lead each session on a core storybook centered on themes including: family, friends, wind and water, the world of color, shadows and reflections, and things that grow. Each Corps Member is eligible to receive an Americorps grant upon successfully completing the program.
