Marguerite Ann Snow (Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics, UCLA, 1985) is Professor in the Charter College of Education at California State University, Los Angeles where she teaches in the TESOL M.A. program. She is co-author of Content-based Second Language Instruction (1989; 2003), and co-editor of The Multicultural Classroom: Readings for Content-Area Teachers (1992), and The Content-Based Classroom: Perspectives on Integrating Language and Content (1997). She is also editor of Implementing the ESL Standards for Pre-12-Students in Teacher Education (2000), and co-editor of Academic Success: Strategies for K-12 Mainstream Teachers (2005) and Developing a New Course for Adult Learners (2006). Professor Snow has published in TESOL Quarterly, Applied Linguistics, and The Modern Language Journal. She recently co-authored a chapter “English Language Development: Foundations and Implementation in Kindergarten through Grade 5” in the California Department of Education volume Improving Education for English Learners: Research-Based Approaches (2010). In addition, she is co-editor (with Marianne Celce-Murcia and Donna Brinton) of the forthcoming 4th edition of Teaching English as a Second or Foreign Language. She was a Fulbright scholar in Hong Kong (1985) and in Cyprus (2009). In 1999, she received the Outstanding Professor award and, in 2007, the President’s Distinguished Professor award at Cal State LA.
In addition to working closely with ESL and content-area public school teachers across the U.S., Professor Snow has also trained EFL teachers world-wide in Algeria, Argentina, Brazil, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Egypt, Hong Kong, Hungary, Japan, Latvia, Libya, Morocco, Pakistan, Peru, Russia, Spain, and Turkey. Her main interests in TESOL/Applied Linguistics are integrated content and language instruction, English for Academic Purposes, curriculum and materials design, and standards for English teaching and learning.
