Bachelor of Arts in Social Work

The Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work enables students to explore and develop values, knowledge and generalist skills essential to the practice of social work in a multiethnic environment. The degree prepares students for entry level positions in social work and for advanced study in graduate schools of social work or related human services. The program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education

Professional Opportunities

Students who complete the B.A. degree in Social Work have numerous opportunities for professional advancement in child welfare, mental health services to the elderly and in other health-related positions.

Faculty

The faculty members of the School of Social Work are committed to helping students achieve excellence. They have recognized expertise in such areas as social research, social policy, human growth and development and social work practice with children, youth, women, families and communities and older adults and their families, advocacy, special service for minority men, and community and clinical practice.

Admissions Requirements

Regularly admissible students to the University are eligible to enroll in the program. It is highly recommended that students complete a statistics course and an introductory course in psychology or sociology before requesting acceptance to the program.

A minimum of 186 units is required for the degree, 86-87 of which are required for the major.
