Masters of Social Work
The Masters Degree in Social Work provides students the opportunity to increase
their scope, depth of knowledge and skills for advance generalist social work practice at
the individual, community, and broader social-political levels.

Admission Requirements to the MSW
- A bachelor’s degree with a liberal arts background from an accredited college or university.
- A grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.75 in the last 90 quarter units or last 60 semester units (on a 4.0 scale).
- GRE is a requirement unless you posses the following:
- A Master’s Degree or PhD from an accredited program or
- Have a minimum 3.25 G.P.A (last 90 quarter units or 60 semester units).
- Completion of 3 prerequisites:
- Human Biology with content on human brain and body functioning.
- 8 quarter/6 semester units of upper division social science courses
(i.e., social work, psychology, sociology, anthropology, political science, history and ethnic studies).
School of Social Work Supplemental Application.
Personal Statement (six to eight pages long answering the questions provided).
One official, sealed transcript from ALL colleges and universities attended.
Three letters of recommendation completed on enclosed Reference Form(1- Academic reference,1- professional reference
and the third can be either academic or professional).
Official copy of scores from the Graduate Record Examination.
Two self-addressed, stamped envelopes.
In addition to the School of Social Work application, you will need to submit the 2007-2008 CSU Post-baccalaureate
and Graduate Admission application simultaneously but separately to the Office of Admissions and University Outreach.
