Welcome New Philosophy MA Students,

I am very pleased that you have decided to join our MA program this Fall. We look forward to an exciting year of visiting speakers, graduate seminars, and Student Philosophy Club sponsored events. Please read the important information below.

Orientation Meeting:

We would like to invite you to our orientation meeting for incoming students, Thursday, September 13th, from 2:00 p.m. to approximately 4:30 p.m. It will be held in the Engineering and Technology Building, A406. Light refreshments will be provided at the end of the meeting and you will be able to meet our graduate advisors and ask questions about our program. We request that you do two things to prepare for the meeting: 1) Please read about all the MA requirements on our University website http://www.calstatela.edu/dept/phil; 2) Bring a copy of your unofficial BA transcript or a list of the philosophy courses you have already completed. This information will enable advisors to figure out which pre-requisites you have already met for our program.

Applying for Financial Aid:

Students who apply for financial aid need to submit an Official MA Program Form (signed by the department chair) to the Financial Aid Office on campus as part of their application. Please contact the Chair, Kayley Vernallis kvernal@calstatela.edu or the Office Manager, Donna Balderrama dbalderrama@calstatela.edu (323 343-4108), to arrange to pick up a completed and signed program form.

Enrolling in Courses:

Please enroll in Fall courses as soon as you are able to do so. Choose courses that look interesting and will enable you to make progress toward your MA degree. If your decisions aren't perfect, the advisors will be available to help you make adjustments to your Fall schedule if needed.

We look forward to seeing you on September 14th!
