BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN NUTRITIONAL SCIENCE
The Bachelor of Science degree in Nutritional Science prepares students to enter dietetics internship programs or to be fully eligible for membership in the American Dietetic Association and to take the national examination to become a Registered Dietitian (R.D.). It also prepares students for advanced study in nutritional science. The Coordinated Dietetics Program (CDP) is accredited and the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) or Nutrition Option is currently granted approval status by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education of the American Dietetics Association.
PROFESSIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
Students who complete the B.S. in Nutritional Science have numerous opportunities for professional advancement in clinical dietetics, community nutrition, food service management, sports nutrition, wellness programs, home health and nutrition consulting.
FACULTY
The faculty members of the School of Kinesiology and Nutritional Science are committed to helping students achieve excellence. They have recognized expertise in such areas as community nutrition, food services management, clinical dietetics, experimental research, weight management (obesity and eating disorders).
OPTIONS
Students select one of two options: Nutrition (Didactic Program in Dietetics) or the Coordinated Dietetics Program (CDP).
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
In addition to University requirements, students who desire to complete the CDP must have:
  • A minimum 2.75 overall grade point average and a 2.75 in the major;
  • Completed nutrition and biochemistry courses within the past three years;
  • Satisfactory health and complete a physical examination;
  • Completed two years and be in upper division standing;
  • Valid California driver's license; and
  • Professional liability, health and automobile insurance
DEGREE REQUIREMENTS
A total of 186-190 units is required for the degree. The major requires 42 units in preparatory courses plus 85-94 units, 61 in the core and 24 or 33 in an option. A minimum C grade is required in all courses used to meet major requirements.
