Environmental Health Option

This option is designed for students who wish to become Registered Environmental Health Specialists (REHS). This option provides basic knowledge and training in the recognition, assessment and control of environmental hazards with focus on health promotion and the protection of health from biological, chemical and physical hazards.

Career Possibilities In:

  • Health agencies specializing in food, water sanitation, housing, vector control, waste management, and air quality
  • Private sectors, consulting firms, various industries and nonprofit organizations
  • International Health Agencies
  • Public Health Departments at local,state and federal levels
  • Voluntary Environmental Health Agencies and Community Based Environmental Organizations
  • Educational Institutions

What You Can Do:

  • Work in areas of food protection, land use, recreational waters, drinking water, housing, sanitation, vector control, waste, and hazardous materials management
  • Provide environmental education,consultation, and protection
  • Assess, evaluate, and control environmental health hazards
  • Determine compliance with federal, stateand local environmental statutes, regulations, and ordinances
  • Promote and advocate environmental health
  • Build environmental

Credential Opportunity
Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS). The examination is administered by the California State Department of Health Services.
