How do I transfer in courses that are not automatically articulated?
Courses that are not articulated can be
petitioned for credit. Petitions should include the catalog description for the
class you took elsewhere, the catalog description from CSLA that you think is
equivalent, and a letter explaining who you are, your situation, and why you
think they are similar (focus on the course content). After completing these
steps: for CRIM courses drop your packet in the school office KHD1045; and for
non-CRIM courses make an appointment with an advisor.
An advisor does not need to individually review courses if they are already articulated.
How do I make an appointment?
Appointments can only be made by signing your name to an open time slot outside the advisor's office.
What is the procedure for readmission / reinstatement from
disqualification?
Disqualification requires either a
readmission (if you have gone more than a quarter) or a reinstatement (if you
came back immediately). Either way, you should make an appointment with an
advisor. Just prior to your appointment, stop by the school office and pick up
a readmission / reinstatement petition to fill out with your advisor.
I cannot get into the classes I need. What should I do?
Your best bet is still to go to class
on the first day and talk to the instructor. He/she is the only one who can
permit you to enter his/her course.
What should I take if my transcript
has not been evaluated?
While waiting for your transcript to be
evaluated (it usually takes 3-6 months from the time you submitted them), we
recommend you take courses you KNOW you have not taken at another institution.
These often include: HHS 301, ENGL 102, and your upper division theme that is
described in detail in your schedule of classes on approximately page 130.
How do I apply for graduation?
Go to ADMIN 146, pick up an application
for graduation and pay for it. Complete all the forms in their entirety. Use
the GET online system if you cannot remember your theme or when you took the
WPE. Drop the forms off in the school office before the cut-off date for
applications.
What are Selected and Directed
electives?
Selected electives are courses the
student 'selects' from a list of predetermined CRIM courses that are listed on
the back (or page 2) of the program. Directed electives are courses the student
is 'directed' to take in either CRIM or related courses after consulting with
an advisor. While the decision lies primarily with the student, advisor
approval is necessary.
How do I get in touch with a
professor?
Faculty office hours and contact
information can be found on the student services web page.
What are sequenced courses
(prerequisites)?
A sequenced course refers to the
courses in CRIM that must be taken in a specific order. CRIM 101 must be taken
before CRIM 303, CRIM 303 before CRIM 430, and CRIM 430 before CRIM 492. You
should try to get these courses out of the way as soon as possible. The school
will not allow you to take these courses concurrently even if they are the only
ones you have left to graduate.
Will I be able to walk in June even
though I only have a few classes left?
The graduation office will allow you to
participate in the June graduation if you have only one class remaining and you
are enrolled for that class in the summer. Any more than one and you will not
be allowed to walk.
What classes do I have left?
You should compare the program
requirements against your GET record to obtain your progress. Once you have
done this and you still have questions, make an appointment with an advisor.
They do not offer the class I need
in the summer. What can I do?
The school operates on a three quarter
system and does not routinely offer any courses in the summer. Unfortunately,
if this occurs you will have to wait for the fall quarter. Plan your last few
quarters early and this can be avoided.
What is the program for Criminal
Justice?
The program for criminal justice is a
list of all the course requirements within the major. It includes the lower
division core, the upper division core, selected electives, and directed
electives. It does not include lower division general education, upper division
general education or university requirements (HHS 301, ENGL 102, and the WPE).
Do I need to repeat a
course if I earned a "D?"
The only
course in the CRIM program that requires a C or better is CRIM 301. For all
other courses in the major, a D- is passing and does not need to be repeated if
your overall GPA remains above a 2.0. However, any grade below a C- can be
repeated if you choose to do so.
Where do I pick up my grades?
Your
grades are available on the GET system and they will be mailed to your house
within a few weeks of the end of the quarter.
