The Program
    The Department

of Chemistry and Biochemistry offers a Master of Science degree in

Chemistry and a Master of Science degree in Chemistry with an option

in Biochemistry. The MS degree in chemistry, available as a thesis

option, comprehensive examination option and biochemistry option,

is designed for students who wish to pursue a profession at a supervisory

level, or where considerable independence and sophistication are required.

The MS degree also serves the needs of students who wish to enter

a Ph.D. program in chemistry or biochemistry with more training and

education than a BS graduate. The programs contain a common core of

coursework supplemented by intensive work in the student's area of

specialization. The thesis option in either chemistry or biochemistry

is encouraged over the comprehensive examination option. A wide range

of active research programs are underway in the department.

Financial Support
     The department and the

University have many opportunities for student financial support including:

graduate assistantships (teaching and non-teaching), individual faculty

research assistantships, Minority Access to Research Careers (MARC),

Minority Biomedical Research Support (MBRS), Bridges to the Ph.D.,

and other University and systemwide graduate scholarship programs.
