REGALIA FOR GRADUATING CANDIDATES

Graduating candidates participating in the Commencement ceremonies must wear the appropriate academic regalia. Regalia can be purchased at the University Bookstore starting April 8, 2020 until Commencement week. Online ordering or rentals are currently not available for bachelor's or master's degree regalia.

Questions? Please contact the University Bookstore at (323) 343-2500.

BACHELOR'S DEGREE REGALIA
  • Black gown with bell shaped sleeves
  • Black mortarboard (cap)
  • Black tassel with current academic year (2020)
  • For purchase at the University Bookstore: $50.98 + tax
How to wear it? The tassel is worn on the right side. At the end of the ceremony, the tassel is changed from the right to the left after the degree is conferred by President William A. Covino.

MASTER'S DEGREE REGALIA
  • Black master's gown with longer extended sleeves
  • Black mortarboard (cap)
  • Black tassel with current academic year (2020)
  • For purchase at the University Bookstore: $91.96 + tax, $37.98 + tax master's hood only
How to wear it? The tassel is worn on the left side. Master's degree candidates do not wear their hood until after the hooding ceremony. When candidates check-in, the hood should be draped on the left arm with the velvet hood trim on the outside closer to the hand. Hoods have a button and cord inside; they should not be clasped. When it is the candidate's turn to be hooded on stage, the left arm should be extended so the faculty can get the hood. Once the hood is taken, the candidate should step in front of the hooding faculty, face the audience, and kneel slightly. This allows the faculty to hood properly, and prevent the cap from being accidentally removed.
