Eagles Nest Gymnasium
Cal State L.A. students were recognized at the University’s Honors Convocation on April 24. Honors Convocation is a special event that honors Cal State L.A. students whose academic records place them in the top fifth percentile of their peers. Dean’s List honorees, recipients of scholarships and grants, incoming freshmen with high grade point averages, and general education honors program participants were also acknowledged.
Dr. Nicole Green is the laboratory director for the Los Angeles County Public Health Laboratory. She received her Bachelor of Science with Honors in biology and a minor in microbiology from Cal State L.A. in 2000. Her doctorate in microbiology was awarded from UC Davis. She has worked at a number of institutions including UC Davis, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases-National Institutes of Health Rocky Mountain Laboratories, Baylor College of Medicine, and The Methodist Hospital Research Institute. Green completed a Lab Aspire fellowship through the UC Berkeley School of Public Health and the California Department of Public Health-Microbial Diseases Laboratory where she trained in public health and clinical microbiology. She is a board-certified medical microbiologist, medical technologist, and public health microbiologist.
In 2014, Green was given the Public Health Excellence award by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health for her scientific contributions and advancement of the public health laboratory. She is active in many professional societies including the Southern California American Society for Microbiology, California Association of Public Health Laboratory Directors, and Association of Public Health Laboratories. She serves as the representative at large for the California Association of Public Health Laboratory Directors and is the secretary-elect for Southern California American Society for Microbiology. Green is also an adjunct assistant professor at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health. She is passionate about teaching new public health and clinical microbiology professionals. Her research interests include molecular epidemiology, comparative genomics, and evaluation of new diagnostic methods.
