ELIGIBILITY

Commencement is the ceremony in which (major) degrees are conferred on candidates who are eligible to graduate for a given term. To be eligible to participate in the Commencement 2020 ceremonies, graduating candidates must fulfill the following requirements:

  1. File to graduate for the eligible declared graduation terms by the corresponding deadlines listed in the Eligible Declared Graduation Terms section, or by April 1, 2020. Please note that there is a late fee when a graduation application is filed after the corresponding deadline listed. Candidates who submit an application after April 1, 2020 are still eligible to participate in the Commencement ceremonies but will no longer be listed in the Commencement program.

  2. Be on track to complete all bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree requirements by the end of the eligible declared graduation terms. To officially graduate from Cal State LA, students must satisfy all university, college, and departmental requirements for a specific degree.

  3. Have not participated in the Cal State LA Commencement ceremonies for the same degree and major from previous years.

  4. Register to participate in the Commencement ceremonies and reserve guest tickets during Grad Fair on April 8 or 9, 2020 OR online from April 20 – May 1, 2020.

Please take this into account when submitting your graduation application after the graduation application deadline dates.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
The Office of International Programs and Global Engagement at Cal State LA will no longer produce letters of invitation for the purpose of inviting students’ family members to visit the United States or attend the Commencement ceremonies at Cal State LA. These letters are not required by the United States Consular Offices in order for families to obtain visitor visas. The International Office is providing an invitation letter sample (see link below) for students who wish to write their own letter to invite family members to the United States. Please note that this letter is not required to obtain a visitor visa. For more information, please visit the International Programs Office website.

If you are an international student on a Visa and projected to graduate the following fall semester outside of the eligible declared graduation terms listed above, please email Commencement by April 1, 2020 for additional information

TICKETS

Eligible graduating candidates will be able to register for the ceremonies, and reserve guest tickets during Grad Fair on April 8 and 9, 2020 OR online from April 20 - May 1, 2020. Due to high participation, safety, and capacity constraints, all guests attending Commencement, including infants and children, will be required to possess a ticket in order to gain admittance to the University Gymnasium.

Each graduating candidate is allotted a specific amount of tickets during Grad Fair OR during the online registration period. After the ticketing deadline, guest tickets and allocation are no longer guaranteed. Ticket allocation will be between 5 - 7 tickets based on the college and/or ceremony size. Once the graduation lists for fall 2019, winter 2020, spring 2020, and summer 2020 are received in early spring, ticket allocation numbers will be posted.

ADDITIONAL TICKETS
Additional tickets cannot be requested via email and will only be available during a specific date. Distribution information for these tickets will be forthcoming. Please note that additional tickets are not guaranteed and are dependent on participation and unclaimed ticket availability.
