Using the Rich Content Editor

How do I create links in the New Rich Content Editor? 

Highlight the text. Select the “Link” icon. Two options appear:  (1) External Links and (2) Course Links. Use External Link for links outside of Canvas. Use Course Links to link to internal Canvas pages in the same course. Here is a guide with more information.

How do I upload files in the New Rich Content Editor?

There is a separate "Document" button for uploading or linking to course files. There are three options that appear: (1) Upload Document; (2) Course Documents; (3) User Documents. Here is a guide with more information.

After using it, you can select the link and then click "Options". Then there is an option to enable an in-line preview of the document. 

 

How do I upload an image in the New Rich Content Editor?

Click the “Image” icon and three options appear: (1) Upload Image; (2) Course image; (3) User image. Select “Upload Image” to upload a new file in your course.
Once an image is placed in your page, click the image and select “Options” to add alternative text and more. Here is a guide

How do I make a link not open in a new tab? 

This is not possible for external links. However, internal course links created using the "Course Link" option do open in the same browser tab. 

Is there another way to navigate the toolbar? 

Yes, use the keyboard shortcut ALT+F9 and a toolbar that appears instead of the icons alone. Use ALT+F8 a full list of shortcuts or review this guide.
