Tutoring Services

How to use our services...

The University Writing Center is for all CSULA students. You can come in with any type of writing assignment at any stage of the process. We can help you understand the assignment as well as plan, organize, and revise your paper. We can even help you learn to proofread for your most common mistakes.

To get one-on-one writing assistance, please follow these steps:

Step 1: Call (323) 343-5350 and make an appointment. You may make an appointment up to two weeks in advance. Appointments last 30 minutes and you are allowed to make three per week. Please come on time. If you are more than five minutes late your appointment may be given to a walk-in. If you come in without an appointment, we may be able to serve you, but we can't guarantee that a tutor will be available.

Step 2: When you arrive for your appointment, check in at the front desk with your I.D. The first time you come in, you will be asked to fill out an information form. This information is used for statistical purposes only. You will also be given a tutor evaluation form.

It is important to check in at the desk because if you don't, neither the Writing Center nor your tutor will get credit for helping you.

Step 3: When you meet your tutor, bring the assignment and all related materials. Be prepared to tell the tutor what you want to work on during the session. You and the tutor will work together on the problems.

Step 4: After the session, fill out the tutor evaluation form and turn it in at the front desk. Your honest evaluation helps us give students the best possible assistance.

Step 5: You may want to stop at the desk and make a follow-up appointment.

Drop-In Information
Reminder: If you have an appointment you can be no more than 5 minutes late, or else your appointment will be given away. If you do not have a scheduled appointment and want to see a tutor, please sign the “Tutoring Drop-In Sheet” located on the front desk.

Five minutes after each half-hour, students will be notified if a tutor is available.

During busy times, you may have to wait as long as two hours, but there is still no guarantee that you will see a tutor. You may have one drop-in per day. In order to avoid the long wait, we recommend that you make an advance appointment to see a tutor on the day and time you need. Appointments can be made up to two weeks in advance.
