The SAT and the ACT are designed to assist students, high schools, colleges, universities and scholarship programs with postsecondary educational planning and decision making and to provide a channel of communication between students and these institutions. Because the subject matter of high school courses as well as grading standards vary widely, the tests have been developed to provide a common standard against which students can be compared.

The SAT and ACT measure developed verbal and mathematical reasoning abilities related to successful performance in college. They are intended to supplement the secondary school record and other information about the student in assessing readiness for college-level work.

The SAT I and the ACT college entrance exams are offered to prospective CSULA students by the University Testing Center on a monthly basis. These exams are offered on a residual basis and scores are intended for use by our campus only. The SAT I and the ACT are offered on selected Wednesdays at 9:00 a.m. Please call the Testing Center for SAT I & ACT test dates and to register by phone.

The fee for taking the SAT I is $50.00 and the fee for the ACT is $34.00. Fees are collected on the day of the test. Examinee must show proof of identification and may use a calculator for the math sections of both exams.

The SAT I and the ACT are hand scored and reports are submitted to the CSULA Admissions office by the end of the week. Students may call the Testing Center for the results of their exam on the Monday following the test date.

The SAT I can be taken only once on a residual basis. The ACT can be retaken once every 60 days on a residual basis.
