All incoming freshmen students planning to enter Cal State LA fall 2010 must test on or before January 30, 2010.
ELM/EPT Registration
The University requires undergraduate students to take the English Placement Test (EPT) and the Entry Level Math test (ELM) unless they are exempt by means of scores earned on tests such as the SAT or ACT, or by a college course that meets the CSU General Education requirements in English and/or math. The University must receive placement test scores before students will be allowed to register for classes. Also, in the first quarter of attendance, students must register for and begin to meet English and math requirements. If remediation is needed, students must register for the appropriate classes each quarter until remediation is completed. Required remediation courses must be completed within three quarters. Enrollment and success in these courses are closely monitored. For more detailed information about the EPT and ELM go to: www.ets.org
Purpose of the EPT and ELM
The EPT is designed to assess the level of reading and writing of all entering students so they can be placed in appropriate courses. The EPT may only be taken once, and cannot be repeated. There is an $18.00 fee for the EPT.
The ELM is designed to assess the skills of entering students in the areas of mathematics typically covered in three years of college preparatory courses in high school. The ELM may be taken once during each test date. There is an $18.00 fee for the ELM.
