The Money Foundation

San Francisco, CA 97681

Dear Ms. Little:

I am writing to apply for one of the $5,000 grants sponsored by the Money Foundation to support teachers' foreign study and research in schools abroad.

I would like to use this grant to attend the 1998 South American-U.S. Summer Teacher Exchange Seminar Program in San Paulo, Brazil. I meet the foundation's eligibility requirements by being a California resident and a certificated elementary teacher currently employed by San Diego Unified School District.

Given my following qualifications, I think that I am uniquely qualified as a candidate for a Money Fellowship.

  • I have financially supported myself throughout my undergraduate education by working as a child care worker in a local preschool. I have state license as a daycare worker.
  • For four years at SDUC, I studied Spanish and am now bilingual.  For two years as I completed my undergraduate degree, I tutored grade 4-6 students in a bilingual afterschool program at Goshen Elementary School.
  • This year I completed my second year of teaching fifth grade at Caesar Chavez Elementary School.  I helped to develop a bilingual, cross-age tutoring program at the school and have translated many curriculum units into Spanish.
  • I have participated in CSULA'S Urban Learning Program.  These professional development programs help teachers to become reflective practitioners whose teaching is informed by research-based standards and to conduct action research in the classroom.

Please send the Foundation's application guidelines, including procedures and deadlines to my above address.  If you need any further information, please call me at (619) 429-6794.

Thank you for considering this request. I look forward to hearing from you about my candidacy for this grant.
