Zhenhai
District is located to the mouth of the Yongjiang River. With Zhoushan Archipelago
to the east, Ningshao Plain to the west, Beilun Port to the south and Hangzhou
Bay to the north, Zhenhai covers an area of 218 sq.km, and owns 21 km coastal
line and a population of 200,000. Its jurisdiction encompasses 6 towns.
In recent years, economic and social development in Zhenhai takes new steps
year by year. Its GDP hits RMB 7.76 billion yuan in 2000(3.95 billion of which
belonged to the district). The financial income hits RMB 496million yuan. The
average income of each resident in the urban area reached 11000 yuan.
Zhenhai has three advantages, namely: harbor, large projects and hometown
of many overseas Chinese. As a part of Ningbo port, there are 7 berths of more
than 10,000 ton, 4 berths of 3,000 ton and the biggest berth for liquid chemical
products in China. The local industries are developed in the district. There are
more than 1,000 enterprises including chemical industry, textile, machinery, electronic
instrument, light industry and building material. 12 categories and about 100
kinds of products are exported. Zhenhai is also the national key development area.
There are more than 30 large state-run enterprises in Zhenhai, such as Zhenhai
Refining and Chemical Co., Ltd., the third Petrochemical Corp., Zhenhai Power
Plant, etc.
The foreign-related economy develops quickly. With the construction of
customs, bonded storage, provincial Zhenhai Economic Development Zone and several
industrial zones, Zhenhai becomes a ideal place for investment. 306 enterprises
with foreign investment have been approved. The total investment hit 690 million
US dollars. The amount of foreign registered capital reached 270 million US dollars,
and the foreign invested capital reached 170 million US dollars. 1n 2000, the
export goods valued 3.36 billion yuan. The self-managed export reached 124 million
US dollars).

ZHENHAI ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ZONE
Zhenhai
Economic Development Zone is located in Wulipai, Zhenhai District, near the mouth
of the Yongjiang River, 3 km away from downtown of Zhenhai, 14 km away from downtown
of Ningbo. The Development Zone has been under construction since 1992. In 1994,
it approved by Zhejiang Provincial Government as Provincial Development Zone.
According to the short-term plan, it covers an area of 19.2 sq.km., but 39.2 sq.km.
in long-term plan. Now, an area of 3.4 sq.km is developed.
With about 6 years development, the infrastructure in the Zone has been
improved day by day. Some basic equipment, such as water and power supply, gas,
telecommunication, water treatment and a 6,000 sq.m. bonded warehouse are all
in operation. There are favorable conditions for petrochemical industry, basic
material, and rising technical industry.
There are all the necessary institutions in the Zone. The administration
Commission is effective, and provides services of all-process, can help you with
all the formalities of investment. In the Development Zone, the investors can
enjoy not only the national favorable policies of tax exemption or reduction,
but also the local policies implemented only in key investment area.
430 enterprises have been established in the Zone, 61 of which are enterprises
with foreign investment. The total investment reached RMB 3.5 billion yuan, including
320 million US dollars of foreign investment. The foreign invested capital hit
94 million US dollars. There are many large invested projects with high technology,such
as Taiwan Chinfong Ltd, LG chemical industry and Holland Axzo Nobel Peroxides
Pte. Ltd. registered in the Zone.
