Cixi District -- Cixi Economic Development Zone

Cixi City is located in the east of Zhejiang Province and on the south shore of Hangzhou Bay. There's Ningbo City to the east, Yuyao City to the southwest and Shanghai across the Hangzhou Bay to the north. It is in the center of the economic delta of 'Shanghai-Hangzhou-Ningbo'. It covers an area of 1154 sq. km, has coastal line of 78.5 km and a population of 1.02 million. In the history, Cixi was the cradle of Chinese celadon and from here Xufu started his successful voyage east to Japanese.

Cixi has been one of the places with quickest development in China. The GDP hit RMB 16.2 billion yuan in 2000. The total output value of agriculture and industry reached RMB 59.9 billion yuan, RMB 57.8 billion yuan is output of industry and RMB 2.08 billion yuan is the output value of agriculture. The financial income reached RMB 1.29 billion Yuan. The average income of each resident in the urban area reached RMB 10,492 yuan, and each peasant RMB 5,502 yuan. The average residential area of each resident in the urban area is 20 sq. m and each peasant 43 sq. m. Engel Coefficiency used to judge life level of town residents was less than 40%. It has been the county (city) with comfortable living standards.

Industry in Cixi is developed. The leading industries include textile, machinery, electronics, electrical appliance, plastic processing, metallurgy and food processing. There are more than 25,000 industrial enterprises with the total capital of RMB 26 billion yuan, 37 of them are large and middle-sized enterprises. The total capital of the biggest enterprises reached RMB 2.06 billion yuan. The sales volume of Ningbo AAA Group's poker, China Golden Wheel Group's cord nylon fabric and Ningbo Cixing Group's miniature & small-sized bearing has topped the line in the world. Now the industry in Cixi is developing to large-scale, intensivization and internationalization.

The infrastructure in Cixi, such as transportation, communication, power and water supply are completed and there are 13,340 hectares of seashore can be developed. Once the Hangzhou Bay Transportation is completed, Cixi will be the traffic hub linking to Shanghai, south part of Jiangsu, north part and southeast part of Zhejiang Province. A piece of promising land for investment, Cixi, is showing in front of the world. The services system for foreign trade, foreign investment and foreign economy are quite effectively. There are 213 enterprises enjoy the right of export, self-managed export volume hitting about 0.54 billion US dollars. There are 602 foreign-invested enterprises with total investment of 0.88 billion US dollars. 37 enterprises are overseas. CIXI ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ZONE
Cixi Economic Development Zone of Zhejiang Province set up in November 1993, with the approval of Zhejiang Provincial Government, is a comprehensive economic development zone with industry, science, business services and residence together. It is located in the north of Cixi City, with the planning area of 500 hectares. An area of 330 hectares has been developed. The Littoral Industrial Zone which covers an area of 2000 hectares is under development. Closing to the Hangzhou Bay Transportation, it has the unique region preponderance.

After several years' development, the construction of six main roads, power supply, communication and water treatment are completed, which is qualified for the development zone. By the end of 2000 there were 239 enterprises that were approved to be set up in the Zone, 42 of them with foreign investment and 131 of them are getting into operation.

The favorable investment environment promotes the development of enterprises inside. In 2000, the total output value of industry reached 2.08 billion yuan, sales value 0.5 billion yuan. The main products include: electronics, textile, clothing, furniture, building material, pharmacy, foodstuffs, arts and crafts, sealing parts, etc. The electronics and information industry, machinery, biological products and new material form its new industrial structure.
