As the backbone in the mechanical industry, the mechanical enterprises achieved a total industrial output value of 6.998 billion RMB Yuan, exporting value 0.863 billion RMB Yuan. It ranks the first in China's 17 municipalities directly under the central governments and the key cities. Its total output contribution is over 10%.

Great attention was paid on the products quality in the mechanical industry in Ningbo in recent years, all the key enterprises passed the ISO9000 certification, the percentage of good quality products upon spot check is increasing steadily. By the endof 2000, following 9 products entitled the famous brand in Zhejiang: "Benye" tractor, Naiji metal sealed switch, Jiefeng Central Air-con terminal output equipment, "Haitian" plastic injection machine, "Ningtong" vacuum switches series and HK-10Z vacuum cabinet, "Xiling" manual hydraulic cart, Tianan HXGN-10 switch, "Sanxing" electric meter, etc.

54 kinds of products won the local famous brand in Ningbo, such as "Ningbo" water meter, "ND" N6160G6300 diesel engine, "NBTM" powder metallurgical special-shape parts, "Ningbian" S9, SZ9 low consumption transformer, "Nafa" motor parts, "Benye" tractors, etc, which take 1/3 of the famous local brand in Ningbo.

During the 10th national five-year plan, with considering the self-advantage, Ningbo will focus on the development of new high-tech industry of photoelectric mechanic integration, and reform the traditional mechanical industry with new high-tech.
