Since
the first foreign enterprise established in Ningbo in 1980, the foreign investment
inviting increased very fast, the industrial structure of foreign investment is
further optimized and project quality greatly improved. The foreign investment
concentrated in following industries: light industry, textile, electronics, petroleum
chemistry, machinery, transportation, infrastructure, culture and tourism, real
estate, etc., which make up the shortage of fund for a large scale development
in Ningbo, promoted the adjustment of industrial structure, improved the comprehensive
competitive power and economic importance of the city. Utilizing the foreign investment
become the main part of the economic development in Ningbo.
In 2000, there are altogether 550 newly approved foreign invested projects
in Ningbo, the total investment is 1,455 billion USD, contracted foreign investment
0.952 billion USD, actual foreign investment utilized is 0.622 billion USD, which
increased by 51%, 72%, 45% and 20% respectively than the previous year. By the
end of December, 2000, The total number of foreign invested projects are 5,040,
with total amount of investment 13.206 billion USD, total contracted foreign investment
8.454 billion USD, total foreign investment utilized 4.009 billion USD. Out of
which there were 49 large projects with total investment over 10,000,000 USD,
increased 27 than the previous year, the total investment is 0.862 billion USD,
contacted foreign investment 0.551 billion USD.
