A Survey of Culture

Ningbo is a famous state-level historic and cultural city, which has been acclaimed as "the state of cultural relics". The city has 1020 preservations of cultural relics at all levels, in which 239 spots was announced by the governments at all levels as protective units; seven of them was listed as state-level key protective units. And they are: Hemudu Cultural Ruins, Baoguo Temple, the Ruins of Yue Porcelain Kilns at Shanglin Lake, the Tuoshan Weir Water Irrigation works, the Tianyi Pavilion Library ,the Zhenhai Seaport Coastal Defense Relics and Chiang kai-shek's Former Home at Fenghua. The city has 7 arts performance troupes, 9 theatres, 155 cinemas, film- showing units and entertainment performance places.

Ningbo's cultural establishments and facilities have been improved. During the past years, the following memorable places and places of recreation have been remodeled and redecorated : Tianyige Painting and Calligraphy Academy , Zhenhai Historical Memorial Hall for Coastal Defense, Mingguang Cinema , Shaoyifu Theatre,Ying County Sa Meng Hai Calligraphy Academy , Liong Zhu Cultural Park ,Ninghaipa Pa Tia Shou Plaze.

During the tenth five -year period ,a museum and a grand theatre will be built . Lan jiang Theatre ,Ningbo Cinema centre , Ningbo Library and Ningbo Popular Art Centre will be remodeled or redecorated Ningbo's foreign cultural exchange is also full of vitality. Ningbo's people have opportunity to enjoy wonderful symphonic music performed by symphony orchestras from abroad.
