The original value of the city fixed assets reached 5.8 billion RMB, its total business volume hit 1.728 billion RMB and business income was up to 1.722 billion RMB. The network construction scale, technology and service ability takes the lead standard in China. All telecommunication business indexes are among the best cities of the same level. It is capacity of such comprehensive service as fixed & mobile telecommunication, intelligent service, and data service, computer multimedia and image telecommunication.

Now, The total capacity of the telephone exchange surpasses 2 million and 1.3 million of which are occupied. The telephone penetration in urban area is 62 sets per hundred people, and telephone lines reach to nearly 100% of villages in suburban area. The number of mobile phone users have surpasses 1 million, which comes out at the top among cities of equal scale. There are more than 130,000 users accessed to the Internet via CHINANET and ChinaInfo. Various services of data communications, IN and ISDN are applying expansively.

Ningbo's telecommunications will be in time with the general requirement of " to pursue the international advanced technology, strive for the national first rate technology and maintain the lead position in Zhejiang Province", and "devote full effort in the construction of one network, and seven systems", to construct and complete modern public information network which is provided with comprehensive business handling capability of telephone, television and computer for meeting the demand of local economic information; to furtherly construct and perfect the seven telecommunication application system of the telephone exchange system, information transmission system, data telecommunication system, network support system, input network system, information application system and intelligent service system. It is planned to make Ningbo telecommunication meet or approach to the level of middle-developed countries and compose the basic form of "Oriental Information Port" by 2005.
