bulletPresent business card with both hands don’t put it away hold it and when sitting down put business card on the table.
bulletDon’t use the term comrade in China
bulletCall them by their first name
bulletPersonal questions are asked (this done to seek common ground)
bulletNo touching like hugs or arm around the shoulder
bulletPersonal space in China is closer than the Western norm.
bulletPeople of same sex walk hand in hand (sign of friendship)
bulletClean plate means you are still hungry
bulletDon’t pour our own drink
bulletDrinking alcohol is very important. (to get out of it medical reason is great)

Getting to know each other

bulletDon’t like to do business with strangers they do go betweens
bulletLike formal introduction (standing up and keep standing through introduction)
bulletDon’t show excessive emotion when introduced (don’t mistake that for unfriendliness) 
bulletHandshake and maybe bow from the shoulders. 
bulletChinese avoid direct contact. 

Gifts

bulletGifts are very important
bulletChinese people decline gift three times before accepting, be sensitive to genuine refusals.
bulletChinese do not open gifts when received 
bulletDo not open gift unless they insist

Gifts to Give

bulletForeign cigarettes, cognac, fine whisky, quality wine
bulletDo not give clocks, cut flowers, white objects these object carry association with death
bulletDon’t give food items suggest poverty.
bulletWrap gifts; red and gold are best wrapping paper.
bulletDon’t use red ink to write.
