Silvia Martin

Marketing Professor Silvia Martin elected President of

the Association of Collegiate Marketing Educators

Silvia Martin Congratulations to Assistant Marketing professor Silvia Martin who was just elected 2018-19 President of the Association of Collegiate Marketing Educators (ACME).  The position highlights her steadfast efforts to expand research in her field and promote the Cal State LA College of Business and Economics (CBE).

The road to becoming president of a national association involves years of previous success in a variety of offices, each requiring significant time and skills.  Affiliated with ACME since 2012, Silvia’s previous posts include conference Track Chair, Association Secretary, Vice President of Membership, and Conference Chair.  Each position requires participating as a mentor to the next office-holder the following year. Typically held by an associate or full professor, to be elected president of an academic association as an assistant professor while teaching, publishing journal articles and 22 conference proceedings is a testament to her tireless energy and dedication.

Silvia enjoys the interaction and finds it intellectually rewarding.  Not only does her own research benefit from the feedback of colleagues and other published faculty she meets, but she receives the latest papers in the field and is involved in conference discussions and workshops.

ACME is a member of the Federation of Business Disciplines which recognizes leading scholarship and educators through conferences and publications from across all business disciplines. Through her work with the organization Silvia has learned how to effectively manage academic conferences and attract industry experts, speakers and sponsors. Her roles have helped her better understand the publication process and connect with journal publishers and editors. She uses these insights and partnerships in her role as an ambassador for the CBE, promoting our programs and accomplishments.

Silvia’s research interests include international marketing, international business, and marketing management and strategy. She has taught marketing at Lynchburg College in Tennessee, University of Bath and the University of the West of England and held international marketing positions in the UK and Mexico.

A faculty member in the CBE since 2015, Silvia holds a Ph.D. in International Marketing and a diploma in Social Science Research Methods from Cardiff University; a MBA in International Marketing from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México; and a BS in Computer Science from Arizona State University.
