Congratulations to our Fast Pitch Winners!

The CBE held another successful Fast Pitch Competition on April 23rd, 2014 in La Kretz Hall. Sixteen students from a variety of majors across campus competed for awards and cash prizes. The event offers students an opportunity to pitch their business idea or appeal for funding of a project via a two minute pitch to a panel of local investors and business owners.  (Read more)

CSULA MSHCM Grad Student Team Places Third in College Bowl.
CSULA placed third and won a $500 prize in the 2014 College Bowl case study competition of teams from 6 Southern California Universities at CSU Northridge on April 25, 2014. (Read more)

College of Business and Economics has earned the status of Premier Chapter for the 2012-2013 year from the Board of Governors of Beta Gamma Sigma. This is a significant achievement and indicates a high value is placed on scholarship recognition at California State University, Los Angeles.

BSBA Option and Certificate in Real Estate

The Cal State L.A. Department of Finance and Law is happy to announce that the California Department of Real Estate (DRE) has issued an articulation letter accepting the BSBA Option in Real Estate and Certificate in Real Estate as meeting the degree requirements for the Real Estate Broker's exam. They have also approved the Minor in Real Estate as covered under existing law.

Department of Economics and Statistics Seminar Series
The Department of Economics and Statistics kicked off it’s Spring Seminar Series on April 3, 2014 with an alum of the college, Dr. Joanne Song. Dr. Song is currently an assistant professor at SUNY, Buffalo. She spoke on “Unemployment Duration in the Great Recession. On May 5, 2014, Dr. Sherif Khalifa from CSU Fullerton presented his seminar “Learning by Doing and Unemployment Dynamics.” For more information on future speakers, contact Dr. Madhu Mohanty in the Department of Economics and Statistics.

 

There was standing room only at the CBE portion of Honors Convocation on Friday night April 25th in the Los Angeles Room of the Student Union. Our two speakers Sabrina Antoine and Remi De La Rocha gave outstanding talks and exemplified the caliber of our remarkable students. CSULA Management graduate Students presented two papers at annual Western Casewriters Association Conference on March 14, 2013 in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Joe Hernandez, Angelica Tolentino, Stephanie Vargas, and Jeff Zhang, of the Beta Alpha Psi, Beta Lambda chapter at California State University, Los Angeles, won the Best Practices presentation at the Western Regional Beta Alpha Psi Conference held in Las Vegas, Nevada February 17th and 18th.

Previous Events

Congratulations to our undergraduate student team (John Rynders, Manuel Cano, Robert Lee, Jason Ballou, Sherry Chi) for winning the International Collegiate Business Strategy Competition this year.  The ICBSC consisted of 7 Worlds. Three worlds had MBA teams. Four worlds had undergraduate teams.  We were in World 4, one of the four undergraduate worlds, each world consisting of 5 teams. For each world of five teams there is first place, runner up, and second runner up.

In World 4, our team was Runner Up for Outstanding Reports and First Place for Outstanding Performance. The College of Business and Economics couldn't be more proud of you!

Congratulations to our MS HCM graduate student team (Matthew Gomez,

Christina Artime, Marco Cifuentes, Timothy Yee) for winning the 2nd place in a statewide Healthcare Executives College Bowl.  Professor Barry Hunt coached, and Professors Andre Avramchuk and Steve McGuire advised, the team to a historic achievement.  UCLA placed first, and USC third, among seven graduate programs brave enough to participate in this prestigious competition.  The College of Business and Economics couldn't be more proud of you!

Carina Kan is pursuing a degree in Business Administration with Option in Finance. Sasha Petre has dual majors in Economics  and Political Science.

CBE co-producing a journal on international business.
CBE is proud to announce their partnership with Fort Hays State University in Kansas to publish the Journal of International & Interdisciplinary Business Research (JIIBR). Look for the first volume of the publication in May 2014. The journal will host a symposium on international and interdisciplinary business research at the Cal State L.A. campus September 17-19, 2014. On the heels of celebrating its first year of success after the first kiosk opened the Westfield Valencia Town Center, owner and Marketing student, Nick Ventura, opened his second socially conscious gift kiosk on Thanksgiving Day at the Northridge Fashion Center.
