As Dean of the College of Business and Economics (CBE) at Cal State LA, it is an honor and pleasure to welcome you to our website. We are extremely pleased you have taken the time to learn more about our academic programs and the potential they hold in shaping business leaders of tomorrow. California State University, Los Angeles is at the heart of Los Angeles, just five miles from the city’s civic and cultural center. Home to more than 28,000 students and 230,000 alumni with a wide variety of interests, ages and backgrounds, the University reflects the city’s dynamic mix of populations.
Our proximity to Los Angeles, our strong commitment to corporate partnerships and professional business education provides unique opportunities for both our students and the business community. Our business students have many opportunities to interact with community leaders inside and outside the classroom. These activities involve guest speakers in classes, active student organization meetings and internships to name a few.
The CBE has met the most rigorous standards of excellence for institutions worldwide - standards that define what it means to be the best in business education. In fact, the College has been accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) since 1960. Accreditation by this body means that we are committed to excellence and to the strategic planning and decision making that support that excellence. It also means that we invite review every five years to assure that we progress against our plans and do what we say we will.
Continuously ranked highly in the US News and World Report, the CBE is among the top 10 public institutions in California. This ranking is a vote of confidence in the strength of our faculty and our programs. We set high standards for our students, and we continue to achieve exceptional feedback from our alumni on the quality of our faculty, curriculum and education.
The CBE is proud of its faculty members. Our faculty members are dedicated to providing a quality education for our students and committed to hands-on student learning. Our faculty members publish in top journals and publications in business and economics-related fields. The CBE supports faculty scholarship in a variety ways to strengthen teaching excellence. We have a wide variety of programs in the College that will lead to fulfilling careers in many different professions.
Our Advisement Center and Placement Services match the “right” students to the “right” companies with available internships and permanent positions. Our team of professional staff is available to direct students to the many resources available on campus as well as assist with academic issues.
Our student organizations and Business Inter Club Council (BICC) have received awards for providing networking and professional development opportunities outside of class. Leaders from each of the student organizations serve on the BICC. They meet with me once a quarter to provide suggestions and give input to the student experience in the College and involve students in the short and long-range planning processes of the CBE.
I would like to invite our alumni to stay connected with us and become an active member of our CBE team. We can certainly benefit from your advice and experience in making continuous improvement in all aspects of our programs and activities. Please let me know if we can meet at your convenience to speak about opportunities that we can create for your active involvement in the life of our College.
We are proud of our tradition of excellence and the accomplishments of our students, alumni, and faculty. We invite you to learn more about the CBE and we are here to assist you in any way that we can.
