Joe Hernandez, Angelica Tolentino, Stephanie Vargas, and Jeff Zhang, of the Beta Alpha Psi, Beta Lambda chapter at California State University, Los Angeles, won the Best Practices presentation at the Western Regional Beta Alpha Psi Conference held in Las Vegas, Nevada February 17th and 18th. The theme for the presentation was “Out of the Box, Best Practices”. The CSULA, Beta Lambda chapter, sponsored an etiquette day which covered topics like business attire, dining etiquette, and networking etiquette.

On the chapter’s etiquette day, the participants had a meal where dining etiquette was covered and other sessions presented what is accepted in business attire and how to network correctly. From these sessions, the CSULA used video and pictures to compile a presentation that suggested how an accounting professional should act during business functions.

In Las Vegas, the team presented their “Best Practices” PowerPoint presentation with the advice of Dr. Gregory Kunkel, the chapter advisor. Their presentation demonstrated how an inexperienced, naïve accounting student might learn these soft skills to further their career. The CSULA team competed against nine other Western regional schools including, the University of Arizona, Cal State Northridge, UC San Diego, and Cal State, Fullerton. CSULA’s first place finish entitles them to compete at the American Accounting Association’s national convention held in Washington, D.C. in August, 2012.
