VITA program

Cal State L.A. VITA to also offer free electronic filing services to the local community

What:  The Cal State L.A. VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program is offering free income-tax preparation services every Saturday through April 11 to individuals who make $53,000 or less and need assistance preparing and filing tax returns. Taxpayers also have an option to prepare their own basic federal and state tax return for free using online tax preparation software that will be made available.

When:  The services will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturdays. Appointments are not necessary.

Where:  The third floor of Salazar Hall, room 343, on the Cal State L.A. campus. For a campus map and directions: /univ/maps/index.php

Parking and fee: Parking Structure A is the closest parking lot to Salazar Hall. Please purchase a daily permit for parking. The ticket prices range from $2.00 for 2 hours to $3.00 for 4 and half hours.

Special Event:  On Saturday, February 21, Cal State L.A. VITA will partner with the California State Board of Equalization (BOE) to host a Free Income Tax Preparation and Family Resource Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Salazar Hall 162. In addition to free income tax help, there will be information about the following: free and low-cost medical coverage, job preparation assistance, food and nutrition services, phone discounts, low-cost auto insurance, and health screenings.

Background:  Since 1998, the Internal Revenue Service and Cal State L.A. faculty have trained Cal State L.A. accounting students to make a difference in their communities as part of the VITA program and participate in an excellent service-learning project.
