Sam Croucher is a business student currently pursuing his MBA and a member of the men’s soccer team. He grew up in the rural village of Ambergate in the English countryside, and after being introduced to the game of soccer by three older cousins, he joined the Derby County Football Academy at age 6. After moving to Burton Albion Football Club as a teenager, Croucher came to California for college.

He transferred from San Jose to Cal State LA after being drawn in by the men’s soccer program’s reputation for excellence. Croucher says that the daily grind of being pushed to the limit alongside his trusted teammates and being surrounded by good people makes the experience of being a Golden Eagle athlete priceless. After graduation, he hopes to make a positive impact on society and in people’s lives through business management or consulting, and to facilitate his parents’ retirement.

He takes great pride in the academic honors he has achieved and in being captain of the soccer team, and during his free time, he enjoys snowboarding and other competitive sports.

Elizaveta Sokolova is a computer science student and a member of the Cal State LA women’s tennis team. She spent her childhood in Russia and Poland, and discovered a passion for the game tennis at age 4. She began competing and through hard work and a fierce love for the game, she flourished. When she came to the US at age 16 to pursue higher education, the warm climate of Southern California drew her to Los Angeles.

After meeting and connecting with women’s tennis coach Sandy Kriezel, she decided that Cal State LA was the only place she wanted to be. For Sokolova, the best part of being a Golden Eagle athlete is the love of sport, the feeling of being a part of a big family, and the connections with her teammates and other athletes.

After graduation, she plans to employ her love of math, science, numbers, and logic to become an expert in data science and analytics. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, traveling, and reading motivational books.
