77: distinguished universities and other institutions of higher education in
78: 17 countries. With a special focus on academic-year studies, IP is a
79: unique part of the spectrum of study abroad opportunities available to CSU
80: students. IP’s guiding principle is that students should be “immersed” in
81: the academic and living environments of their host countries.

  82:

  83:

  85:

  86:
No overseas tuition or administrative costs are
  87: charged.

  89:
Students earn resident credit for all overseas

  92:
All campus financial aid, with the exception of
93: work study, is applicable overseas.

  94:

  95:
IP assists students in arranging the details of
96: their year abroad, including academic planning, transportation, visas,
  97: and housing.

  99:
Once overseas, students receive assistance from a

102:
ELIGIBILITY

103:
Eligibility requires for each program, including
104: coursework prerequisites and language requirements, are provided in the
105: country brochures. (You may obtain these brochures from Admin 127 or
106:
107: www.calstate.edu/ip.) Some programs require a 2.75 GPA while others
108: require a 3.0.

109:
For most programs, applicants must have upper
110: division status or classified graduate status. Some programs may be more
111: competitive than others.

112:
LENGTH OF EXCHANGE

113:
An academic year offers the opportunity for the
114: fullest possible adaptation and integration in the context of university
115: studies. It also allows time to achieve advanced language, academic and
116: cultural coping skills. During the first half of your year, you will be
117: learning, adjusting, and assimilating information at an incredibly rapid
118: pace. During the second half, you will be applying and using what you
119: have learned and you will finally feel “at home” in your host country and
120: host university environment. It is also the time when you will really
121: come to feel that you have made friends.

122:
COST

123:
IP is the most affordable study abroad opportunity
124: for CSU students. Enrollment fees are kept at an affordable level because
125: part of your costs are supported by the State of California. And if you
126: qualify for financial aid, you may apply it to your year abroad.

127:
Students pay for their own housing, meals,
128: transportation and incidentals. These costs do differ from country to
129: country depending on the economic situation of the country and the type of
130: arrangement you select.

131:
There are IP scholarships:

132:

133:

134:
IP Scholarships: Open to all IP participants except
135: applicants for Japan, China and Taiwan. Applications are due with IP
136: application.

145:
APPLICATION

146:
A complete application consists of an IP Application,
147: 2 faculty recommendations and official university transcripts from all
148: colleges and universities attended. For some programs, students must also
149: submit a Foreign Language Faculty Recommendation.

150:
All applicants are reviewed at the home CSU campus by
151: a local selection committee. The local selection committee makes its
152: recommendations to the Student Affairs Committee of the Academic Council
153: on International Programs, which takes final action on all candidates.
154: Selection is based on academic, linguistic, and personal qualifications,
155: and on the appropriateness of the students’ proposed plan of study to
156: their degree objective. Applicants will be notified of the final decision
