 186: 		<p>The SAT and the ACT are designed to assist students, high schools, 
 187: 		colleges, universities and scholarship programs with postsecondary 
 188: 		educational planning and decision making and to provide a channel of 
 189: 		communication between students and these institutions. Because the 
 190: 		subject matter of high school courses as well as grading standards vary 
 191: 		widely, the tests have been developed to provide a common standard 
 192: 		against which students can be compared. </p>
 193: 		<p>The SAT and ACT measure developed verbal and mathematical reasoning 
 194: 		abilities related to successful performance in college. They are 
 195: 		intended to supplement the secondary school record and other information 
 196: 		about the student in assessing readiness for college-level work. </p>
 197: 		<p>The SAT I and the ACT college entrance exams are offered to 
 198: 		prospective CSULA students by the
 199: 		<a href="index.htm">
 200: 		University Testing Center</a> on a monthly basis. These exams are 
 201: 		offered on a residual basis and scores are intended for use by our 
 202: 		campus only. The SAT I and the ACT are offered on selected Wednesdays at 
 203: 		9:00 a.m. Please call the Testing Center for

 205: 		SAT I &amp; ACT test dates</a> and to register by phone. </p>
 206: 		<p>The fee for taking the SAT I is $50.00 and the fee for the ACT is 
 207: 		$34.00. Fees are collected on the day of the test. Examinee must show 
 208: 		proof of identification and may use a calculator for the math sections 
 209: 		of both exams. </p>
 210: 		<p>The SAT I and the ACT are hand scored and reports are submitted to 
 211: 		the CSULA Admissions office by the end of the week. Students may call 
 212: 		the Testing Center for the results of their exam on the Monday following 
 213: 		the test date.&nbsp; </p>
 214: 		<p>The SAT I can be taken only once on a residual basis. The ACT can be 
 215: 		retaken once every 60 days on a residual basis. </p>

 228: 		Foreign Language (TOEFL) is to evaluate the English proficiency of 
 229: 		people whose native language is not English. the test uses a 
 230: 		multiple-choice format to measure the ability to understand North 
 231: 		American English. The test consists of three sections: </p>

 233: 		Listening Comprehension - Measures ability to understand English as it 
 234: 		is spoken in North America. </span></p>

 260: 		<p>The Miller Analogies Test (MAT) is a high-level mental ability test 
 261: 		requiring the solution of problems stated as analogies. It consists of 
 262: 		100 partial analogies that are to be completed in 60 minutes. </p>
 263: 		<p>Fluency in the English language, a broad knowledge of literature, 
 264: 		philosophy, history, science, mathematics, and fine arts, and the 
 265: 		ability to reason out relationships may contribute to performance on the 
 266: 		MAT. </p>
 267: 		<p>The Miller Analogies Test (MAT) is offered on the first Wednesday of 
 268: 		every month at 9:00 a.m. The $50.00 test administration fee is payable 
 269: 		on the day of the exam. The Psychological Corporation mails test results 
 270: 		directly to the examinee within three weeks of the test date. Students 
 271: 		interested in taking the MAT should call the University Testing Center.

 274: 		<p>The Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) tests are taken by individuals 
 275: 		applying to graduate schools.&nbsp; The Subject Tests are offered at the 
 276: 		Testing Center and measure achievement in a particular subject are and 
 277: 		assume an undergraduate major or extensive back-ground in that

 304: 		states to use as part of their teacher certification process. The Praxis 
 305: 		Series assessments are also used by colleges and universities to qualify
