Jesús Arellano holds a Master of Arts in Spanish Linguistics from California State University, Los Angeles. He also holds a Preliminary Credential as a teacher for the Division of Adult and Career Education in Los Angeles. He is a member of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP), Golden Key International Honor Society, National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society (Sigma Delta Pi), and the California Teachers Association.
He has taught at California State University, Los Angeles, Mt. San Antonio College, Los Angeles Trade Technical College, Cerritos Community College, New West Charter, and at the Los Angeles LGBT Center. Jovanny Benitez is a 4th year undergraduate student and is pursuing a B.A. in Television and Film with a minor in social media marketing. He plans to use his degree to help tell stories that are not usually told (not your typical "happy ending, hero saves damsel in distress" kinds of stories).
Being a student assistant at the UAAC, he helps students in learning how to navigate the campus. He is involved with on campus organizations and clubs such as Students United to Reach Goals in Education (SURGE) and Golden Eagle Productions (GEP).

Angel Chan Angel is a proud alumna of Cal State L.A. She has been serving students for many years. Prior to joining the University Academic Advisement Center, she served as a lead adviser at the Advisement and Outreach Center in the College of Health and Human Services. She has coordinated and taught HHS 101 and HHS 301. Angel has also developed and trained faculty/staff on General Education and on the GET/ADVIP/SA DPR (Student Advisement Degree Progress Report). She has served on the General Education Subcommittee for Semester Conversion, WASC Focus Group, and Subcommittee for hiring SSP II.
Angel is dedicated to assisting students as they work hard to achieve their academic and professional goals. She enjoys workings with students, and conducting and facilitating the strategies for the academic disqualification workshop. She is passionate about equal access to resources and ensuring that students’ needs are met. Angel enjoys working with each student to find a unique balance of challenge, support, and motivation that students need to flourish their academic success, and she is resourceful to students. Noemi Espadas is a 5th year undergraduate student graduating in the spring of 2018. She is majoring in Communications and minoring in Psychology. She hopes to work with at risk teenagers by getting them back on the right path. Her favorite part about working at the UAAC is being able to assist students around campus and with their classes before speaking to an advisor. She is involved with a campus organization which is the newest sorority on campus, Delta Phi Epsilon and is very passionate about it.
Fun Fact: She loves camping and being outdoors.
Edward Fisher was born and raised in Southern California.
He began working in the University Academic Advisement Center in 2000, and prior to that he worked in the Academic Affairs administrative offices for 12 years.
He is married, has five children (four boys, one girl) and enjoys spending time with his family.
Interesting Fact: Edward and his daughter share the same birthday.
Alex Martínez serves as an Academic Advisor at the UAAC. Central to Alex’s core value is to empower students to serve as their own advocates in their educational journey.
Alex has had the privilege of serving students in different capacities, as a Graduate Student Advisor, Lecturer, Health Professions Advisor, Admissions Counselor and Academic Advisor. Aside from advising, Alex also enjoys teaching and he has taught undergraduate students at Cal State LA and Rio Hondo College.
Like many students Alex began his academic career as an undeclared major. After a few years at Santa Monica College he transferred to a four-year school. Alex has a Bachelor’s degree from Long Beach State (Go Beach!) and a Master’s degree from Cal State LA; both his degrees are in sociology. Claudia Molina Prior to joining the University Academic Advisement Center, Claudia worked as a student assistant while pursuing her undergraduate degree. She now holds a B.A. in Psychology with a Minor in Social Gerontology from California State University, Los Angeles. She enjoys working with a diverse population of students to help them achieve their academic goals. Her focus is to help students achieve their goal of graduating from college. Mindy Olivera is the administrative assistant for the UAAC.
Currently an East Los Angeles College student, Mindy hopes to transfer to Cal State LA to pursue her bachelor’s degree in the fall of 2018.
During her spare time, Mindy enjoys spending time with friends and family.
She likes going hiking to new places early in the morning. Her favorite hiking grounds are currently solstice canyon in Malibu.
Edgar Padilla, a native Angelino, began his education at Pasadena City College after he was legal to drink! He eventually graduated with an AA from Pasadena and transferred to CSULA. Here he received his Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies and his Master's in Counseling with an option in Rehabilitation Counseling. Before starting his career in education, Edgar worked as a certified welder; during his education he was a Teacher’s Assistant and a Pre-School Teacher. He also volunteered at CSULA’s University Academic Advisement Center (UAAC) to gain experience for his master's degree. He eventually was hired by the UAAC and now enjoys working with the diverse population of students that attend CSULA.
In addition to advising at the UAAC, he makes video tutorials for students to view through the UAAC YouTube page, he also attends conferences to help him stay on top of the latest trends in higher education.
