California State University-Los Angeles. The Department of Sociology invites
applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin September
2007. The primary area of specialization is urban sociology and globalization,
with emphasis on Los Angeles and Pacific Rim societies. Secondary areas are
open. If unable to fill the position, it may be converted to a full-time
temporary position. Applicants must have a PhD degree or ABD in Sociology from
an accredited institution of higher education. A doctorate is required for
tenure. Applicants must have: potential for, or record of, research and
scholarly activity; demonstrated potential for effective teaching using a
variety of methodologies; and demonstrated ability or interest in working in a
multiethnic, multicultural environment. Desired/preferred qualifications include: Demonstrated potential for department service, student
involvement and academic advisement. Duties include: (1) teaching courses in the
primary specialization area of the position, (2) engaging in
professional/scholarly activities (e.g. publishing, research, grant-seeking)
and involving students whenever possible, (3) formal student advisement using
computerized student records, (4) supervising students for thesis and
independent research, (5) contributing to the Department, College and
University through committee involvement, curriculum development, and service. Initial
salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
