Internship, Scholarship, Conference, & Job Opportunities
Students
can participate in an internship by enrolling for Soc 398 or Soc 498,
and they can earn up to a maximum of 8 units of elective credit for
their sociology degree. To be approved for an internship, students
should have completed at least three upper division courses in
sociology, arrange a work agreement with an approved agency, and be
willing to commit the equivalent of 30 hours of agency work for each
unit of credit they expect to receive. The intern must meet with the
Department's Internship Coordinator during the quarter, and submit a
journal of activities and a short final paper illustrating how
sociological concepts gleaned from their sociology courses have been
applied to the work setting. A list of approved agencies and other
program details can be obtained from the Coordinator.
Announcements concerning potential internships are included
below. However, students should also feel free to arrange their
own internship placement. Scholarship Opportunities in the Sociology Department Cal State LA offers over 300 scholarships. Most are awarded to students currently enrolled, and many are given to students pursuing specific majors. Sociology awards three such scholarships: the Francesca ("Kiki") Alexander, the David Miller, and the Richard and Erika Nahrendorf. The Sociology Department is accepting applications for its scholarships. Required forms are below.

University Scholarship Opportunities
Graduate and undergraduate students may participate in sociology or social science conferences. For undergraduates, participating in a conference can be helpful in gaining admission to graduate programs. The same is true for graduate students wishing to continue on to a PhD-level program.
